Patients & Families
One in ten adults and children in New York State has asthma. Asthma rates are higher for some ethnic and minority groups. The Asthma Coalition of the Capital Region is working to reduce the number of adults and children who are hospitalized each year in New York State and to help individuals with asthma to live healthier lives.

Steps you can take to control asthma:
- See your primary care provider or asthma specialist every 3 months.
- Ask for an Asthma Action Plan and keep it up-to-date.
- Use your medications according to your plan and know the difference between long-term controller medications & quick-relief medications.
- Know what triggers your asthma and take steps to reduce those triggers at home, work, and school.
